The instruction given for the development of Hindi language in Article 351 of the Indian Constitution is as follows:
“It shall be the duty of the Sangh to increase the spread of Hindi language, to develop it so that it can become the medium of expression of all elements of the composite culture of India and without interfering with its nature in Hindustani and other languages of India specified in the Eighth Schedule. Sanskrit mainly for assimilating the form, style and designation used in it and its vocabulary where necessary or desirable. Sector and secondarily to ensure its prosperity by taking words from other languages. "
The Central Hindi Directorate was established on 1 March 1960 as a subordinate office of the Ministry of Education (now the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development) towards compliance with this spirit of the Constitution. It has four regional offices in Chennai, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Kolkata.
